Acceptable forms of identification include: A Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC), a state driver's license with a 'Veteran' designation, a military retired ID card, or a current VetRewards card from Veterans Advantage.

If you do not hold one of these specific cards, carrying a copy of your DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) alongside a government-issued photo ID is also accepted by train conductors.

Route Exclusions: Veteran discounts are valid on almost all Amtrak routes, but they do not apply to premium Acela Express services. Connecting Thruway bus segments operated by independent carriers may also be excluded.

Acela Booking Attempts: Attempting to apply the veteran discount to high-speed Acela trains is a common mistake, as Acela is excluded from everyday veteran programs. Choose a Northeast Regional train instead.
